My favorite place as a child was the breakfast table at my Papa and Nana's house. Pink grapefruit still brings me vivid memories of those sweet mornings. I can see my Papa in his button down jammies giving himself his insulin shot. Papa and I would sit and eat while watching some super hero cartoon with real characters dressed up. Once in a while it was Bozo the Clown. :)

It is amazing how I can still go back to that moment as though it had just occurred. I was 4 years old. My Papa passed away right before my 5th birthday. His influence in my life lives on until today.

LEADING BY EXAMPLE

We went to the Maxwell's Homeschooling Conference this last weekend in Wausau, WI. It was wonderful to just "be" with other Christian homeschooling families.

So much was coming together for me between these two conferences. (I attended the MHA conference on Sept 29 with Sandra Dodd as the guest speaker.) I am such a mix of philosophies and thoughts :) LOL

I think I have had a HUGE revelation about christian child training. It is ALL about example! Living a life that your children will want to follow. It should not be nagging and trying to "fix" them. It's all about you!

What does your relationship with Jesus look like?

How is your self-discipline?

How do you view "work"?

How do you treat others?

Do you use your words to encourage and edify?

Do you gossip about others?

Do you gossip about your children and/or your husband?

Do you act out in frustration or anger?

Are you calm and peaceable?

If YOU do not have the traits that you desire in your children, you can not expect them to exhibit those traits.

So many times I have expected my children to behave in ways that I do not behave consistently. :( Like expecting them to get along with their siblings. Question: Am I able to achieve that as an adult in my sibling relationships? No. I do not always get along with my siblings. So here comes the child training part...I must learn how to lovingly interact with MY own siblings. :D Through this example, I am training my children. Every time I fail in being respectful to my siblings, I must confess it and ask for forgiveness. Being open with my children about my sin and discussing how I can do better next time. And then truly striving to do better next time around.

I was really amazed by what the Lord showed me this weekend. All of the things that the children do that need to be fixed came from Rich and I! :( We taught them through our poor behaviors. Now we must re-teach them by fixing ourselves.

To me, this is what Deuteronomy 6:4-9 is all about! (King James Version)

4Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:

5And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

6And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:

7And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.

8And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes.

9And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.

Your life should be saturated with God's Word so that you may teach your children in every day activities, how you carry yourself, how you behave in situations, how you treat others, and how you see the world around you.....all day long. Every day. You must be demonstrating the attitude and traits you desire for your children to have.

Lord.....help me to truly be a good example to my children. I know that my flesh is weak but you can use my weakness for Your glory Lord. For "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me." (Philippians 4:13)

"But He said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong." - 2nd Corinthians 12:9-10

BLAST FROM THE PAST!

Inspired by Ginger, I decided to post some old photos too.

This one is from around Nov 3,2006. It was my Nana's birthday party. Her last one as she pasted away this past April.

I was due any moment...though Mylee decided to hold out until Nov 21!

Yes....she was over 3 weeks late! LOL

Anywho.....this is myself (Angela), my husband Rich, my son Angelo (just barely 2yrs. in this picture), and Mylee in tummy. :) And yes....I still have to figure out how to size pictures. Stop being so picky! ::: wink :::

WE HAVE A SICKIE!

Poor Abigail!

We just got over being sick from Feb 16th. All of us have been fighting headaches, stuffy noses, runny noses, sore throats, body aches.....you get the point.

We were all just starting to feel better. :(

Then Wed night, Abby threw up. And again last night. I feel so bad for her. No fun being sick.

Hopefully it will not go through all of us again.

Lord....please look over Abby. She is in need of rest. Please build her strength. Also build our immunity. We have been sick for almost 3 weeks. :( Amen.

I am so in love!

My husband is a wonderful man! We had a snow fall today. It was beautiful! The temp was nice. So dh stopped off after work and picked up boots and gloves for the kids.

Now you may be wondering.......you are in MN? Don't they already have boots and gloves? Yes. A few pairs! :) Our little weeds have grown soooo much that they all needed to up size! LOL

SO Rich stopped at Saver's and Walmart to get the goods.

Then he started dinner (pork chops, green beans, and potatoes....NUMMY! ) and took the older 3 outside while I picked up and Mylee napped. They had so much fun! Daddy even was pulling them around on a "snowboard" sled. Rich even took a turn. LOL

Oh......how I wish my batteries in the camera were not dead. Too cute! Angelo was doing tricks on his turns.

We will take pictures tomorrow of the outdoor play if it is not too cold.

Mourning Our Excess

Today I have been looking through blogs about missionaries in Liberia. (Ok....so I research Liberia ALOT lately :) ) I am just sick about how blessed my family is. We take it ALL for granted. :( It wasn't until I started having health issues that I really realized how blessed I had been to not wake up everyday in pain, to have full range of motion, to be able to dance. I am now acutely aware of my blessings regarding my health. It has been an amazingly humbling experience! I am still working through it.

I look around our home (one room for us right now with access to a large home) and I am feeling so guilty of the selfishness we display DAILY! Throwing leftovers away, not liking certain foods so we CHOOSE not to eat them, so many clothes.......I have like 6 baskets of laundry to do and our drawers are still full! Plus we still have clothing packed from our move. We have all of the modren appliances and conviences. We have SOOOOO many toys, books, pencils, crayons, combs, hair clips, paper, shoes, socks........oh socks! We just keep buying them! (Did I mention I am lazy with laundry??? :D )

We are living in sin!

We have been called by the Lord to care for others. I have gotten comfortable thinking that by being nice, praying for them, and reaching out on occation that we are doing "good" things.

We are NOT doing enough! The Lord intrusted us with HIS belongings to serve others.....not to become lazy, comfortable, and self serving. We are to care for His children. Ministering to them in ALL ways! Not just when it is easy for us or when we have extra time. Every moment we have is the Lord's. Every dollar that comes into our bank account is the Lord's. Every item that blesses our hands is the Lord's.

How are YOU using God's resources? What are you doing everyday to serve His children?

This was such a wake up call for me today. I praise the Lord for the wisdom that He placed on my heart and I pray for the strength and diligence to put it into action. Lord....use my hands to do Your work alone. May my every thought and action be under Your divine authority. Amen!

I hope that this will touch your heart as well. It has set fire to mine!

Feeling Overwhelmed...
I can not seem to shake this feeling lately. :( I am just feeling so very overwhelmed by everything going on right now. Just taking care of the children (7, 5, 2, and 8 months) is taxing me so much. I want to be a godly mother/wife but lately I find myself screaming and belittling them. :crying: I need to pull it together! It is NOT right to let my frustrations out on all of them. They deserve to have a loving, sweet mama and a happy wife.I am just not myself lately.

I want so much to change........but is seems to not be changing. I am so weak. I know scripture says that the Lord's yoke is light........why does it seem so heavy to me? I am tearing up as I write this (only the 4th time I have cried today) It seems like all of these lofty goals with NO ability to reach them.Half of the time I feel like a farce. I read these other blogs with perfect moms of many, homeschooling, family devotions, doing daycare and charity events, clean houses, romance with their husbands.....knitting, sewing, and scrapebooking in their spare time...........I am lucky if we have one meal a day that is not out of a box or can. Even luckier if I remember to change the load of laundry. UHHHGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!

I just want to do what the Lord has put on my heart. I do not understand why that seems sos hard.

So much going on.......
We are now more of unschoolers then homeschoolers. Man...I hate labels! LOL

This blog is going to be a spot where we journal each day our journey.

Mylee Noelle was born Nov 21 2006 She is 3 months old now! Time flies!

Today is a snow day! Big winter storm going on. I have been researching deschooling (to fix my thoughts) and the children have been playing video games and building forts out of the couch pillows. :)

Just got back from turning in home schooling paper work to register officially as a homeschool with our school district. :)

I decided to write a letter of intent instead of filling out the form. I also attached exemption for vaccinations and a sheet about loaning/receiving materials for first grade. I am nosy and want to see exactly what they are doing in the public school for his grade LOL

I am also going to pick up a box of random homeschooling stuff from my mom's house. My sister and brother were homeschooled so they have alot of resources that we now can use :)

That is what I love about homeschooling.....you can piece it together anyway you would like! :)

This blogging thing is going to take some time to get used to :)

It has been a while....currently I am 32 1/2 weeks pregnant with #4.....our Little Lady (who still remains nameless)

We are doing wonderful! This journey in homeschooling/unschooling has been great. I am realizing, for us we need a little more structure...like a loose game plan to follow. We have been reading a variety of books such as Little House in the Big Woods, Biology from Abeka books, Summer with the Moody's, and the Bible. We will be adding more variety and poetry as the days go on. We are keeping it really relaxed though. We will also be doing copywork or writing (depending on how it all fits in)

We are loosely following Charlotte Mason using www.amblesideonline.com . That seems to fit us really well right now. I am also looking into www.MathUSee.com for math. The Bible has been our main source of reading though. It is amazing to see the Bible come to life for my children! :)

For most of the readings, we do them as a family (well....minus Dad as he is at work) Even Angelo sits and listens.....most of the time! LOL

My main struggle has been scheduling and kepping (or should I say getting) control of the household. I have gleamed a TON of wisdom from www.largefamilylogistics.net She is wonderful! That is what I am basing my schedule on right now. It is still hard as I am such a perfectionist to really get it to work. I want results NOW! :(

Slow and steady wins the race though...

Tons of religious/spiritual issues have ben popping up for me. I am really being challenged and convicted. It is good though.....except for being called "legalistic" because there is passion behind my beliefs.

I am also working on a steady meal plan and trying to gain control over my kitchen. I am using www.savingdinner.com and looking into once a month cooking. The goal is to have home cooked meals every day and to have back up in the freezer.

Wow.....I am rambling. :)

I will be double posting this in my other blog as it is not just about HS/US.

That one is about my journey to becoming the woman Christ wants me to be. If I get off of my bum and do it. I am soooo lazy alot of the time. :(

Wow! I finally did it! :) Started a blog that is...

We are homeschoolers/unschoolers. I do not like us to us labels because we do not fit inthe box! LOL

Homeschoolers think we unschool, unschoolers think we are classical homeschoolers.....so we homeunschool. :)

We as a family will be journaling our adventures in learning here.

Our family consists of: Rich....great hubby and dad. He does plumbing and construction work.

Angela....that is me. We own a dance academy that I instruct at in the evenings with all the kids and usually hubby in tough. I am a quiverful mama to 4....well, soon to be four.

(As said by them...)
Dominick is 6. He enjoys soccer and baseball and to play. His favorite colors are blue and orange.

Abigail is 4. She likes to play with her friends and planning a slumber party and a hula party. Her favorite color is pink.

Angelo is 21 months. Up until a couple of days ago, his favorite activity was nursing. LOL He loves sports and playing with cars.

Then there is a little lady who will be making her appearance Nov 2006 via home birth. We are excited to meet her.

We also have Jake, our year and a half 110 lb black lab and Sarah our tiger kitty who will be oneon August 12.

So that is our intro.....on with the journey!
